Two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party locked in a clash on Saturday noon in the capital’s Uttara at a programme marking the death anniversary of the BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, also a former president of the country.

Two groups of the BNP’s youth wing Juba Dal locked in a clash at about 12 noon and also vandalised chairs in the programme, where 800 lungi and saris were distributed.

Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said that police had brought the situation under control and none was severely injured in the clash between the two groups of Juba Dal.

‘A team of the police was deployed for the programme as BNP central leaders are scheduled to address. I also went to the spot after hearing the news of clash,’ the OC added.

BNP Dhaka City north unit convener Aminul Islam, however, could not be reached over phone for comment despite several attempts.
